JATONET believes that it's essential to educate our citizen of tomorrow, especially in a country where environmental issues have to be treated seriously.
We mobilize our members and volunteers in Bungoma's schools to do environmental and healthy prevention.
About environmental prevention, our community aims to show children how important it is to keep the environment clean. We explain to children how they can change their behavior in order to protect their environment, especially by practicing sorting of waste, creating a compost in school and at home, stop throwing their wastes on the ground, etc.

What are jigger fleas ?
Jiggers are small chigoe fleas that live in the dust, and are found on the dirt floors in schools and homes of many families in Kenya and other similar climates. These parasitic insects cling to livestock and transfer jiggers into homes primarily in rural areas.
The female jiggers burrow into the surface of skin that has been exposed to the flea.
Once embedded in the body, the jigger lays eggs and creates up to pea-size egg sacks and continues to multiply by laying more eggs.

Jiggers issues
These wounds are painful, and cause difficulties for victims in daily activities such as walking, playing, and attending school.
The infection can lead to severe inflammation, ulceration and fibrosis. It can also cause lymphangitis, gangrene, sepsis, and the loss of toenails, amputation of the digits, and death may also occur.
Jigger fleas cause swelling, ulceration, itching and infections and difficulty walking.
The only way to remove the jiggers is to cut them out of the feet - and this is usually done with no anesthetic. And also use chemical solution which is potassium permanganate.

Our needs
JATONET asks that you consider a one time or monthly gift to help fund the Kenya Medical Evangelism Clinic (MEC). They are still in need of boxes of gloves, disinfectant and skin solution, a sprayer and spray to treat the ground to eradicate where the flea infestations are.
